Answers to common questions about using TapSpan on iPhone.

Getting started

Open TapSpan and tap Start. That’s a Quick Timer. You don’t need to create an account, a customer or a job first.

TapSpan has three tabs: Timer, History and Summary. Settings is on the Timer screen.

Quick Timer

A Quick Timer session has no customer or job. It’s saved to History like any other session.

To organise it later, open the session in History and assign it to a job. You then choose whether to use the job’s hourly rate or keep the session’s recorded rate. Recorded time doesn’t change.

Customers and jobs

A customer is who you work for. A job is a piece of work for that customer. Add them from the Customer and Job selectors on the Timer screen.

An hourly rate is optional. Customers you no longer need can be archived and restored later. A customer can’t be archived while it has an open session.

Pause and resume

Pause stops the clock without ending the session. Resume continues the same session. Paused time is never counted.

If TapSpan is closed or your iPhone restarts, a running timer is restored when you reopen the app. Paused sessions stay paused.

Switching between jobs

While a session is paused, tap Switch, choose another job or a new Quick Timer, and confirm. The original session stays paused and appears under Paused with a Return button.

Return brings the session back to the timer. It doesn’t resume until you tap Resume. More about switching.

Editing recorded sessions

Open a session in History. Edit changes its customer, job, description or rate. Correct time adjusts its work intervals, or adds missing work.

You can also add a session manually from History. TapSpan warns you if a corrected interval overlaps another session, and won’t save an interval that ends before it starts. To correct a running session, pause it first.

CSV export

Export from the Summary screen or from Settings. TapSpan creates a CSV file and opens the iOS share sheet, so you can save it to Files, send it by email or open it in a spreadsheet.

The file contains your finished sessions, so you can sort, total or filter them alongside your own records.

Backup and restore

In Settings, open Backup and restore to save a backup file wherever you choose. Restoring replaces the customers, jobs and sessions on your iPhone with those in the backup.

Before restoring, TapSpan saves a restore point, and you can undo the last restore. If a backup file can’t be read, nothing on your iPhone is changed.

Data and privacy

Your records are stored on your iPhone. TapSpan has no account system. Backups and exports are files you create and control.
